iPad 3 will reportedly have LTE, Retina Display, quad-core A6

You can expect the iPad 3 leaks to come in a steady stream from now until March. Within the last couple of weeks, we’ve heard that it will have an upgraded camera, be slightly thicker, and, of course, tote a Retina display. Now yet another source is adding its voice to the choir, with a report that supposedly confirms many of the details we’ve heard already (and adding a couple of its own).
The report says that Foxconn and company are increasing volume of the iPad 3 this month, and will hit full volumes in February, with a release scheduled for March. It will supposedly be packing a quad-core chip (Apple’s A6 SoC), a Retina display (probably 2048×1536 resolution), and will offer 4G LTE wireless compatibility.
Though we’ve heard all of this from various sources before, the LTE detail is the biggest news here. We would all be shocked if Apple didn’t double the resolution in the iPad 3. Nobody would be taken aback by a quad-core A6 either. Everyone also has March circled on their calendars as the month of the announcement and release. LTE, however, would be a logical addition to that list. As the iPad’s battery can handle the wireless tech better than the iPhone, it would be a smart decision to introduce Apple’s customer to LTE with the iPad 3.
If the iPad 3 is sold in an LTE-compatible model, it will be interesting to see how Sprint handles that. The carrier isn’t expected toroll-out its first LTE cities until later this year. Would Apple authorize a Sprint iPad that would operate only on 3G until the network is available — then enjoy LTE speeds once it’s available? As long as it doesn’t require a mail-in upgrade (as with the “what not to do” manual known as theMotorla Xoom launch), it sounds like a feasible approach.
Like it or not, these iPad 3 leaks and rumors are going to keep coming at a steady pace. Fortunately, unlike the iPhone rumors from last year, these are fairly consistent and combine to form a clear pictur
